Benefits
If you’re not sure if hydroseeding will work for you, here are some of the benefits:
- More cost-effective than sod application or traditional seeding.
- Faster growth of new grass.
- Helps control erosion on steep slopes or hills.
- It can be used for repairing patchy grass.
How it Works
Hydroseeding uses a slurry of seed, water, mulch, and fertilizer to plant grass. We customize this mixture to the soil on your property. Then, we spray it on the bare soil using a high-pressure hose. There, the seed takes root and sprouts.
The grass starts to grow after approximately a week. This fast growth can be attributed to the fact that the seed in the hydroseeding mixture retains moisture. The mulch in the mix protects the seed from damage by wind, sun, erosion, and animals. As a result, your grass is healthier than it would be using other seeding methods.
Maintenance
Typically, four weeks after application, it is necessary to start mowing the new lawn. If you’d like, we can also cut the lawn for you once it’s ready. Before then, it is essential to keep the lawn watered.
After the property is first hydroseeded, allow the mulch to dry before watering. It is usually dry by the next day. During the first two weeks, water all hydroseeded areas daily, keeping the area slightly moistened to speed up germination.
Where to Use
Hydroseeding is perfect for new construction. However, it can also be used to repair, extend, or replace an existing lawn. It is a quick, easy option to grow beautiful grass.
This is especially important in Maine, where the growing season is short. The ideal lawn seeding season in Maine is only about a month long, lasting from mid-August to mid-September. That being said, you should contact us early in the season to ensure that we can come to you during this time.
It is also more aesthetically pleasing. Even distribution of seed creates a uniform coating. This makes it ideal for larger applications like golf courses and other recreational fields. LaPlante’s has the highest quality professional-grade hydroseeding equipment to ensure accurate application every time.
We have specialized in hydroseeding since 2018. As a result, it has become popular with both residential and commercial clients across the greater Bangor, Maine area in a short time. Contact us to see if hydroseeding is right for your lawn to take advantage of this excellent alternative to traditional grass planting.
